Why wardrobe doors sag, and what actually fixes it
Nearly every sagging door call in Dubai comes down to one of three causes, and the right repair is different for each.
The hinge has lost its adjustment. European concealed hinges — the cup-shaped ones fitted to almost every wardrobe and kitchen cabinet sold here — have two or three adjustment screws that move the door sideways, in and out, and up and down. Doors drift out of alignment over time simply from use. This is the best case: no parts needed, and a carpenter who knows which screw does what can square the door up in ten minutes. It is also why we adjust every door on the unit rather than just the one you called about.
The fixing points have stripped. Wardrobe carcasses here are almost always chipboard or MDF, and the hinge plate is held by short screws into that board. Once the hole is worn, the hinge starts to move under load and the door drops again days after any adjustment. Retightening achieves nothing. The correct repair is to plug the hole with glued dowel, let it set and redrill, or move the plate slightly and add a reinforcing bracket. Fitting a fatter screw splits the board and turns a AED 200 repair into a panel replacement.
The carcass itself has moved. If the wardrobe was never levelled on the floor, or was anchored to the wall out of square, the whole box is slightly twisted and no amount of hinge adjustment will make the doors sit right. You can spot this from the outside: the gaps are uneven at both the top and the bottom, in opposite directions. The fix is to unload the unit, re-level the base with packers and re-anchor it, then adjust the doors. It takes longer but it is the only repair that holds.
Sliding doors follow a different pattern. Nine times out of ten the fault is dirt, hair and dust compacted in the bottom track, or a roller that has worn flat on one side. Track and rollers are cheap parts; the expensive mistake is forcing a jammed door, which bends the track and turns a AED 300 repair into a full track replacement.
